Has an RPS failed? A properly structured RPS has yet to fail due to technical capability. A 100% RPS is feasible and arguing against setting the goal 30 years into the future is driven by something other than what is best for society. When I pick stories every night, the first thing I do is look at the author. Understanding the point of the article means understanding the point of view. Groups like BTI and their funded authors have an agenda which means that the intent of their articles is likely biased based on where the money comes from.

EV Demand Charges. Georgia went from a EV tax credit to an EV registration fee. Look for the oil companies trying to shift any benefit that EVs get into fees. Their argument will be that EV drives do not pay for the cost of the infrastructure because they don’t pay the gas tax. What I am most amazed at is that the direct beneficiary of more EVs are the utilities. The same utilities that use this same argument for solar users are now being hurt by oil companies that look to slow the EV growth. This is a big deal and not to be ignored. Oil and utilities both have unlimited lobbying budgets and EVs represent a massive growth opportunity that utilities cannot and will not ignore.
Arizona Compromise, your opinion? Two weeks ago, I was quite critical of the compromise in Arizona. I still remain very skeptical, just look at what Sunrun CEO, Lynn Jurich said about the companies operations in Arizona coming to an end. On the other hand, I have heard from many of you that this was the best solar was going to get and more fighting wasn’t going to get us more. So this sets a standard and let’s everyone settle back into another round of negotiations in a few years. What do you think? Should solar be open to settling even if it means markets essentially come to an end?
